Are we smarter than dogs?

2/6/2019

In the 1890’s, Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov accidentally discovered how to train dogs.

He learned how to get dogs to associate sound with food. Every time he fed his dog, he played a sound from a metronome. Soon, the dog would start drooling every time he heard the sound, even if there was no food present.

Pavlov’s condition has made its way into popular culture.

In the show “Big Bang Theory,” Sheldon trains Penny, his best friend's girlfriend, by giving her a piece of chocolate every time she does something he approves.

You can watch the funny clip here.

Have you ever been trained like a dog, and not even know about it?

The next time your phone chimes telling you a text or post is waiting, ask yourself “why do I feel this urge to look?”

The next time you look for approval for a decision you’ve made, ask yourself “Why do I need this person’s approval?”

Thanks for caring!

With gratitude,

Anwell Tsai
