Basketball players and active listening

In the NBA, basketball players spend hours perfecting their offensive moves every day. They’ll take thousands of shots and practice dribbling between their legs and behind their backs all day.

Yet, for half the game, they’re playing defense. NBA players don’t work nearly as hard on that side of their game.

The same could be said with leadership and communication. Managers fret over how to deliver a compelling presentation. Yet how much attention do they spend on learning how to listen?
