What’s the difference between Jazz and Classical Music?
In Classical music, the majority of the performers spend countless hours practicing music composed hundreds of years ago, faithfully playing each note exactly as the composer written, while adding stylistic color with their interpretation.
In Jazz music, the majority of the performers spend countless hours practicing music composed recently, then improvise spontaneously, adding notes, runs, and melodies, depending on how they are feeling at that moment.
Both performances can be highly effective, in different ways.
When you have a high-stakes conversation, do you prepare for it like a Classical or Jazz musician?
What might you gain, if you tried it the other way, or if you prepared both ways?
Thanks for caring!
