Primary colors and music

4/10/2020

When we were kids, we all learned to draw using the 3 primary colors, red, green, and blue.

As our sense of color grew, we experimented with blended colors, like purple, orange, and sky blue.

Now, think about the paintings you like these days.  Do they use solid primary colors or blended colors?

The idea of blended colors happens in music as well. Children’s music is mostly happy, with some sad or serious music mixed in.

As our tastes mature, we start moving towards music that expresses blended emotions. Tchaikovsky can express beauty, hope, sadness, and pain, all at the same time.

What emotions we hear change depending on our mood at that time.

What emotions do you hear in your favorite piece of music?

Thanks for caring!

With gratitude,

Anwell Tsai
