Should trust be given or earned?

1/21/2019

At the beginning of the school year, kids must earn their teacher’s trust by behaving well and following the rules.

On the flip side, it’s assumed that the kids trust the teacher from the very beginning.

What if we did the opposite?

What would happen if the teacher trusted the kids at the very beginning?

What change would we see if the teacher had to earn the kids’ trust?

Earn the kids’ trust by saying “Learning is messy and learning is fun.  You’re going to have a great time pushing the boundaries and making mistakes, because that’s the most effective way to learn. I’ll be there to help you because i’m your biggest fan.”

We are all teachers in some way. Which type of teacher would you like to be?

Thanks for caring!

with gratitude,
