The forgotten Mozart

10/27/2021

Mozart’s musical performances thrilled audiences across Europe.

Mozart’s father once described the 12-year-old as playing “the most difficult works which we have… with incredible precision… is one of the most skillful players in Europe.”

However, Mozart’s father is not writing about his son, Wolfgang. Instead, he’s writing about his daughter, Nannerl.

Nannerl was an outstanding musician and her famous brother’s idol. Wolfgang once wrote, “I am in awe that you can compose so well, in a word, the song you wrote is beautiful.”

So what do her compositions sound like?

Unfortunately, we have no idea. No manuscripts survive. Nannerl's career was cut short by her father, who favored male musicians.

Imagine a world with two Mozarts! Imagine a world where we celebrate the talents of all people!

Thanks for caring!

With gratitude,

Anwell
